The work we do at JMJ would not be possible without our dedicated volunteers. We are so thankful for everyone who gives their time to help at JMJ. With that, we want to make sure we take the time to recognize our amazing volunteers and introduce them to our community. First off is one of our Monday volunteers, Getty Almaguer!
How long have you been volunteering at JMJ?
"I’ve been at JMJ for about one year."
What is your role at JMJ?
"I help with the front desk by greeting clients, booking appointments, entering files, and directing lobby traffic. I also assist sometimes with the 'Lifting Lives' appointments. Since I speak Spanish, I'm able to translate for some of our clients, too."
What got you started volunteering with JMJ?
"When all the laws started passing in New York and Virginia that allowed abortion up until the moment of delivery, I felt very strongly that I needed to dedicate time to help the pro-life movement."
What keeps you coming back?
"I enjoy being there for the moms we help on a daily basis. The knowledge that JMJ is touching and changing lives in a very real way, one person at a time, is part of my ministry there."
What is your favorite thing about JMJ?
"I love the direct, hands-on contact we have with women and families that come seeking help. I am awed by the dedication, care, and commitment shown by our advisors, as they counsel and walk with each of the women that come to JMJ at what is often a very difficult time in their lives. I am humbled by the true gratitude shown by our 'Lifting Lives' families when they receive much-needed items for their babies. I am delighted to share in the joy of moms, as they show me the photographs of their babies after their ultrasounds. Central Florida is very fortunate to have a place like JMJ, where moms in crisis can go for help and support with their pregnancies and with their babies. I’m glad to be able to help in whatever way I can to lighten the loads for these families."
What is a fun fact about you?
"We have three Dalmatians at home. Their names are Ellie, Theo and Wonka."
